US Time Zone Map with Cities
The “with cities” variant of the US time zone map: 101 cities and towns plotted with live local clocks — 12 major metros labeled, at least one city per state, and the towns that show each state's exception zones. Click any marker for its IANA zone and exact time.

Every city on the map
This US time zone map with cities plots 101 cities and towns — the 12 largest metros (marked ●), at least one city in every state plus Washington, D.C. and Puerto Rico, and the towns that show a state’s exception zones: Pensacola (FL), Evansville (IN), and Bowling Green (KY) on Central Time, and El Paso (TX), Rapid City (SD), and Scottsbluff (NE) on Mountain Time. Markers are labeled directly on the map at full zoom; every one of the 101 is listed by name below, grouped by the zone it actually sits in.

The six U.S. time zones
Hawaii–Aleutian Time
UTC−10UTC−10 year-round, with no daylight saving. The furthest-behind zone in the United States; in summer it is six hours behind Eastern Time (five hours in winter).
Hawaii–Aleutian mapAlaska Time
UTC−9 / UTC−8One hour behind Pacific Time, for nearly all of Alaska — Anchorage, Fairbanks, and Juneau. Only the western Aleutian Islands use Hawaii–Aleutian Time.
Alaska mapPacific Time
UTC−8 / UTC−7The westernmost continental zone: California, Washington, nearly all of Nevada and Oregon, and the northern panhandle of Idaho.
Pacific mapMountain Time
UTC−7 / UTC−6Colorado, Utah, New Mexico, Montana, Wyoming, and Arizona, plus southern Idaho and the western edges of Kansas, Nebraska, the Dakotas, and Texas.
Mountain mapCentral Time
UTC−6 / UTC−5The hub zone: Illinois, Texas, Minnesota, and 17 more states in all or part. Ten states straddle its edges, from Texas and the Dakotas to Florida and Michigan.
Central mapEastern Time
UTC−5 / UTC−4The densest zone: New York to Maine, plus most of the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast. Florida, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, and Tennessee each have parts on Central Time.

How the zones came to be
Five dates behind every clock on this map, from sundials to daylight saving.
Before 1883
Sun time
Every town set its clocks by the sun overhead, so noon in Boston came about twelve minutes before noon in New York, and railroads juggled dozens of local times.

November 18, 1883
Railroad time
U.S. and Canadian railroads switched to standard zones an hour apart, set from Greenwich. Many towns reset their clocks the same day, remembered as “the day of two noons.”

1884
Greenwich
Delegates at the International Meridian Conference in Washington chose the Greenwich meridian as longitude zero — the line every UTC offset on this site is counted from.

1918 and 1966
Time by law
The Standard Time Act made the zones federal law in 1918. The Uniform Time Act of 1966 set common daylight-saving rules and let a state opt out, as Arizona and Hawaii do.

2026
Daylight saving
Since 2007 clocks spring forward on the second Sunday of March and fall back on the first Sunday of November: March 8 and November 1 this year.

Frequently asked questions
What does “with cities” mean on this map?
Every city and town marker shows its own live clock and IANA zone. 101 cities are plotted — 12 major metros plus at least one city per state and the towns that sit in a state's exception zone — so a glance tells you the local time without a search.
How many cities and towns are marked?
101 across all 50 states, D.C., and Puerto Rico — roughly 1–5 per state. Multi-zone states show the correct sub-zone for each town: e.g. Pensacola, Florida on Central; Bowling Green, Kentucky on Central; El Paso, Texas on Mountain.
Are the city labels always visible?
Major metros carry persistent labels; smaller towns get labels as you zoom, since labeling all 101 at a full-US view would overlap. The complete list of every labeled marker is in the table below the map, so no marker is unlabeled in the data.
Are city times updated live?
Yes — each marker’s clock is computed from your device’s time zone database and refreshed every second. There’s no server time involved.
Is there a printable version of this map?
The printable time zone map page strips the controls and live clocks for a clean A4/Letter print, no watermark. The on-screen version here keeps the live clocks and search.
