Why does the timeline move when the clocks change?

Each exchange keeps its hours in its own local time. When either the exchange’s zone or yours switches to or from daylight saving time, its bar moves by an hour on your clock. The timeline always uses today’s date.

What are the overlap bands?

The shaded bands are the hours when two big markets trade at the same time: London with New York, and Tokyo with London. They are computed from both sessions for today, so they shrink or vanish on holidays.

Stock market hours timeline

Every exchange’s regular session for today, drawn on your own clock. Gaps inside a bar are lunch breaks; an empty row means a weekend or a holiday. The line marks the current time. Hours come from each exchange’s publications; the conversion uses your device’s time zone.
