GMT to EST converter
EST is 4 hours behind GMT right now. UK time (GMT/BST) is the clock in London; Eastern Time is the clock in New York.
Why the gap changes
The UK and the US both observe daylight saving but on different dates: the US switches on the second Sunday in March and the first Sunday in November, the UK on the last Sundays of March and October. For a few weeks each spring and autumn the usual gap between London and New York is one hour smaller.
Over the next 12 months the difference is 4 hours or 5 hours, depending on the date. The table and the converter always use the date you pick. See EST vs EDT for why the abbreviations change.
